The broad plain kept clear of trees and large boulders before the Kholinar city walls, so that no attacking army would have cover on its approach. By the time Kaladin scouts the city from below the clouds the field is empty of soldiers but already bears the brick-and-mortar foundations of Voidbringer storm-bunkers — siege works meant to cut Kholinar off from resupply.
