STD:Tress:Ch 2 Heard but not seen — his shouting from inside the mansion is enough to tense Charlie and end the moment between him and Tress.
STD:Tress:Ch 3 Watches Tress and Charlie hold hands from a mansion window, says nothing, and fades back into the shadow of the house. The next morning his proclamation announces that he and his family are leaving the island.
STD:Tress:Ch 4 Shouts at Charlie from the prow of the merchant ship to be quick and finally forces him belowdecks before the sails strike out for the horizon.
STD:Tress:Ch 5 Presents Dirk as his new heir from the deck, recites his nephew's military record, and produces thirty kegs to soothe the crowd's confusion.
STD:Tress:Ch 5 Receives Tress's plea to pay the ransom in person at the mansion and answers by calling her a hazelnut-haired strumpet and forbidding her from washing windows anywhere in town.
STD:Tress:Epilogue Arrives red-faced with the writ, demanding to know what Tress has done to the island; has not read far enough to see the king's stipend clause; given a letter from his wife in the writ-stack and left to scowl below.
