A woman among the council's onlookers, dressed like the rest but with oil stains on her gloves, who is the only one in the room able to follow Nomad's equations. She concedes the principles but explains, plainly, that Beacon's people are refugees among refugees — they keep machines running because they have to, not because they have time to theorise.
