The false Charlie
A reptilian, golden-eyed, toothy-grinned creature in the Sorceress's tower that wears a Lightweaving disguise of Charlie in his formal clothes. The Sorceress presents it to Tress as her rescued love and offers to trade it for the two cups; the impersonation is good enough to fool her briefly, but the puppy-perky enthusiasm betrays it. Events
- STD:Tress:Ch 59 Walks out of the holding chamber wearing one of Charlie's formal outfits, rumpled in a few places, and rushes to Tress declaring he knew she'd come. Plays along with the Sorceress's mock un-cursing rhyme and gives her a brief kiss.
- STD:Tress:Ch 59 Chatters happily down the stairs about returning to the Rock for pies, window-washing, and gardening — exactly the Charlie from before her voyage, perfectly unchanged. The perfectness is what Tress finally cannot believe.
- STD:Tress:Ch 60 Standing at the doorway, drops the Lightweaving disguise once Tress sees through it, revealing the reptilian creature with golden eyes and a toothy grin underneath. The narrator suspects the Sorceress had meant to place it on the Crow's Song to deal with him more permanently.
