Lightweaving
The art of shaping Stormlight with the surge of Illumination — the Lightweavers' magic. A Lightweaving takes its form from a drawing made first: a sketch is the model, Stormlight fills in detail beyond the artist's line, and the resulting image is a statue of light that does not move, breathe, or look back. The caster can reclaim the light from the image by inhaling through it. SA:WoR:Ch 47
The practice of shaping Stormlight with the surge of Illumination — the Lightweavers' art. Jasnah had named it for Shallan aboard the Wind's Pleasure as the gentler of the two surges in her bond with Pattern to train on. SA:WoR:Ch 17 superseded at SA:WoR:Ch 47
Known facts
- sustained-by-infused-spheresA sustained Lightweaving feeds continuously on infused Stormlight from spheres carried on the weaver's person; once the spheres go dun the illusion evaporates, and any image the original sketch left incomplete shows as a fuzzy gap in the disguise.SA:WoR:Ch 42
- illusions-can-be-held-unconsciously-for-hoursHiding inside the illusion of a boulder she had previously drawn for Mraize, Shallan discovers that a simple Lightweaving does not need conscious attention to hold; she waits the Ghostbloods out for hours in the rain and only realises the Stormlight is exhausted when the illusion vanishes around her.SA:WoR:Ch 54
- can-mask-stormlight-trails-from-skinLightweaving over the bearer consumes the Stormlight trails that would otherwise rise from her skin; Shallan wraps herself in pure black against the wall of the madman's cell and remains hidden from Amaram and Bordin standing feet away.SA:WoR:Ch 64
