Odiv
A Fjordell bond of utter personal service in which one man — the odiv — yields his thought, action, and obedience to another — his hroden. Within Shu-Dereth it lets a lower priest greatly increase his power by binding himself entirely to a higher one's will. EL:EL:Ch 3
Known facts
- contrast-with-krondetThe hroden-odiv tie is irrevocable obedience: when one's master commands, one obeys. Most ordinary Derethi believers — and many priests — are bound instead as krondets, who hear their hroden's counsel but are not morally compelled to do as told. Once sworn, an odiv can be marched anywhere by his hroden; his only out is to fall away from Shu-Dereth entirely.EL:EL:Ch 21
