A southern people who, Allik tells Marasi, were once kings before the world froze — they offended the Jaggenmire and that is why everything went wrong. Now they wear plain unpainted masks and serve in any way they can, earning ornamentation back compliment by compliment; a compliment from a stranger sends one of them back to his people for a formal hearing on whether his mask may change.
