Ruin
A power of destruction from Scadrial's deep past, gone from the world by the time of Wax and Wayne — invoked in modern curses (*Rust and Ruin*, *In Ruin's name*) and discussed in the religious histories. The author of the book Ironeyes handed Wax argues that, with Ruin no longer present, the old prohibitions on Hemalurgy no longer apply. MB2:SoS:Ch 2
A power that was held imprisoned in the Well of Ascension for a thousand years, and that took the Well's millennial reserve and broke free when Vin gave it up rather than use it. Named in the kandra religion as the force humans belong to and the destroyer to whom mankind is appointed. Believed by Sazed to have spent centuries silently rewriting the Hero of Ages prophecies — even the lines inside Keeper metalminds — so that a willing hero would come to the Well and release it. A power named in the kandra religion as the force humans belong to — the destroyer to whom, in the kandra reckoning, the race of men is appointed. Pair to Preservation. MB1:WoA:Ch 33 superseded at MB1:WoA:Epilogue

- released-from-the-well-of-ascensionWhen Vin releases the Well's power into the void rather than use it, something long imprisoned takes it and goes free. She hears it a single time, ringing through her mind: I am free. The cavern shakes; the pool empties. She does not yet know what she has released — only that it is something terrible.MB1:WoA:Ch 58
