Allik Neverfar
also known as The Masked Southerner, masked one
The masked southerner from Irich's cage, named at last once he is wearing the medallion that translates for him — a small man with a wispy beard who pilots the hidden flier out of Dulsing and addresses Wax with a different awestruck title each sentence (*Great Being of Metals*, *O Metabolic One*, *Tall One*). Cheerful, talkative, and obviously terrified that the *Metallic One* he is praising will hurl a coin through his skull if he says the wrong thing. MB2:BoM:Ch 21
A short, young man — well under twenty by the wispy beard under his polished red wooden mask — found by Marasi in a four-foot animal cage in Irich's back room at the Dulsing warehouse, swathed in thick blankets and speaking only one word of Marasi's language: *please*. He wears tight knee-length trousers, white socks, and a snug double-buttoned red vest under his loose shirt; the wrecked ship is his. MB2:BoM:Ch 19 superseded at MB2:BoM:Ch 21
Known facts
- reveres-allomancers-as-metallic-onesThe masked southerner's people call Allomancers *Metallic Ones* (or *Fotenstall*) and treat them with reverence — when he sees Wax Push a wall of soldiers flying with their own boxes, he freezes mid-mask-adjustment in awe; later he tells *Great Metallic One Wax* he would never dare give him orders, even if Wax wears his face bared at all times.MB2:BoM:Ch 20
- pilot-from-far-southAllik is a skimmer pilot of the Malwish, the people from a land far south across the Roughs and the wastelands beyond, where (he says) the oceans once boiled but the survivors of the Ice Death now live by the Sovereign's gift of medallions and airships. He came north on the wrecked ship hunting the Bands with the rest of Captain Brunstell's crew before Irich's men took them.MB2:BoM:Ch 21
- skimmer-pilot-twenty-twoAllik is twenty-two — the wispy beard and mustache under his mask make him look younger — and was working as a skimmer pilot aboard the airship Brunstell under Captain Brunstell, ferrying crew between ships and towers. Pilots, he insists, are not deckhands; they are expected to be gentlemen and ladies, and the ship once dangled a man from a rope over the side for not knowing the cistern three-step.MB2:BoM:Ch 22
- gifts-broken-mask-to-marasiOn the rooftop of Ahlstrom Tower in Elendel, before flying home, Allik removes his broken, glued mask and presses it into Marasi's hands as a gift — to gasps from his fellow airmen — and dons a plain wooden mask for the trip south. *Thank you, Miss Marasi. For life.*MB2:BoM:Ch 31
Events
- MB2:BoM:Ch 21 Bows to his abandoned mother ship below the flier; takes the primer cube from Wayne, snaps it into a socket, and gets the fans running while addressing Wax as a different *Great Being* every sentence.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 21 At the controls; swaps between his Connection medallion (to speak) and his heat medallion (to keep warm) repeatedly while telling Marasi of the Sovereign, the Ice Death, and the temple. Changes course to head for the temple himself once she shows him Irich's map.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 22 At the controls for the entire two-hour glide, gesturing wildly with his mask raised once he is comfortable enough to lift it, weeping silently when Marasi coaxes him to talk about the lost crew.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 23 At the controls, warning that fans on low speed are still loud and a landing will be rough.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 23 Pats Wilg like a puppy before Steris chases him off; later refuses to engage with Wayne's sales pitch for his own worship because he has swapped to the warming medallion and cannot understand a word.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 23 Wakes the temple's glass lights with an ettmetal nugget from the primer cube, then trails behind Wax gasping at MeLaan's trap-tanking and at his own party's *ridiculous intentions*.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 24 Carries MeLaan's pack with her hair in it; offers water from a canteen; admits the symbols on the inner door are nothing he recognises.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 25 At Marasi's shoulder, staring death at Edwarn; presses forward when Edwarn lets slip that his captain still lives, fists clenched.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 25 Confirms the symbols mean nothing to him in any southern script he knows.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 25 Goes in with the others past the door, into the soft blue glow of the inner chamber.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 26 Stands frozen with Steris through the firefight, then grabs Marasi's arm pleading as the three are herded together.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 27 Has his warming medallion ripped off and a guard cracks his mask with a backhand; goes blue and stops shivering on the snow.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 28 Hunched in the snow next to Steris, turning blue from cold.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 28 Receives the hidden warming medallion from Steris and thaws.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 29 Bursts in with a fistful of warming medallions, passes them out to his dying crewmates, raises his mask to grin at his captain.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 30 Sits beside Marasi on the temple steps with his own canteen of choc and a blanket, watching the ship descend.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 30 Translates Steris's aside about the kandra into his language for Jordis and the rest of the crew.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 31 At the gangway lifts his broken mask to Wax and gives it to Marasi as a parting gift before donning a plain wooden replacement for the trip south.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 17 Wood-masked husband-elect; broom in hand sweeping glass off the basement floor as the others examine the wreckage.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 18 Mask down to chew gum, head on Marasi's shoulder; identifies Daal as a war-respected man and frames the ambassador's arrival in Consortium terms.
- MB2:TLM:Epilogue Returns to Elendel early, breaks against Marasi on the train platform, and delivers the news about Wayne himself rather than let her hear it from a broadsheet.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 19 Reaches between the bars and whispers *please* to Marasi; once freed, totters to the next room and kneels before the wall of his dead crewmates' bloody masks, lifts his own so Marasi can see his young, unblinking face, and weeps.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 20 Watches Wax Push a wall of crates and soldiers backward, whispers *Fotenstall* in awe behind his mask, and helps drag the wounded Marasi toward the safety of the ship.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 20 Runs ahead in the corridor, slaps a wall panel, drops a rope ladder from a hidden trapdoor no Set engineer had found.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 20 Swaps to a translator medallion (*how's that?*), pulls a lever that slides the entire compartment out of the hull like a dresser drawer, and directs Wax to Push down on two bolted handholds to take them up into the air.
