Beldre
Quellion's sister — a quiet young woman of unusual deep-auburn hair who is kept near her brother but excluded from his closed meetings. Sent to sit alone in the small garden of his headquarters during his evening conferences, where, unknown to her, Spook watches her from a window across the way. MB1:HoA:Ch 14
Known facts
- revealed-as-coinshot-bodyguard-of-her-brotherOn the rally stage Beldre shoots Spook in the shoulder with a coin to stop him from killing Quellion. She is the Coinshot in her family, not her brother — his official bodyguard rather than the other way around — and her presence at his side at every public event was the protection Quellion was hiding.MB1:HoA:Ch 58
Events
- MB1:HoA:Ch 14 Walks alone into her brother Quellion's bare garden in a brown skaa dress, sits before the single surviving shrub on the only bench, and waits out his meeting in silence. Spook watches from a windowsill across the way, close enough through flared tin to read the sorrow in her eyes.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 16 Stands beside her brother Quellion through the burning execution and the market walkabout; Spook works through the crowd to her side and twice whispers in her ear before grabbing her hand to deliver his promise to kill the Citizen, which she answers only by mouthing words back to him.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 41 At her brother's side during the burning, with something like sympathy or pain in her eyes as she watches the prisoners herded toward the building.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 46 Stands alone in the ash-buried plot that had once been a garden behind Quellion's residence. Tells Spook he doesn't understand her, refuses his offer to leave with him, and begins screaming for the guards rather than be argued with further.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 49 Sits in the audience chamber in a plain red Citizen-approved dress, hands clasped to keep them still, and asks them not to kill her brother. Wilts in her chair when Spook tells her she will not be allowed to go home.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 53 Sitting by the cavern lake, captive but allowed to roam. Tells Spook her history, lays a hand on his arm, and warns him that power is a terrible thing — she has seen what it has done to her brother.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 56 Wears one of the looted noble gowns Spook brought her, reads his half-Eastern-slang charcoal board, talks him down from threatening her brother outright, and offers to write Quellion a letter pleading for him to listen.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 58 Holds her brother Quellion's scornful reply letter, begs Spook one more time not to attack him, and is left under four-soldier guard in the cavern when Spook leaves for the rally.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 58 Escapes the cavern by putting down four of Spook's guards with coins, follows him to the rally, and shoots him in the shoulder to stop him killing her brother. Dragged onto the stage by the crowd, then later binds Spook's wounds and walks the dying-on-his-feet boy back toward the cavern.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 62 Sits at Spook's bedside, more days than she spends with her brother, declaring that he will recover.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 64 At Spook's bedside as he wakes; rubs his cheek and tells him to rest while he insists on sending a warning south.
- MB1:HoA:Epilogue Wakes Spook in the cavern, wonders at his healing, follows him up the trapdoor into the meadow and to the field of flowers; reads the note from Sazed with him.
