Design
Manager of the Noodle Pupil in Kilahito — long white hair, deliberately striking dress, and the curious habit of giving discounts only in prime-number increments. She is in fact a Cryptic from Roshar wearing a Lightweaving disguise designed for her by the narrator, with force-projection scaffolding rather than flesh underneath. She is not particularly good at pretending to be human. STD:YNP:Ch 5
The Cryptic spren bonded to Wit — making him, in technical fact, a Lightweaver though he refuses to behave like one. Materialises beside him in a shared dream inside Kaladin's mind, plays an inaudible-fingered flute under his story, spoils the ending repeatedly, and announces with delight that *dogs can't be dragons*. Known facts
- cryptic-in-disguiseWears her human shape as a humanoid Lightweaving designed for her by the narrator — wireframe and force projections rather than flesh — and is in fact a Cryptic. She asked the narrator to make her striking precisely so that her face unravelling would be more disturbing, and noted that the resulting figure reminded her of a graphed cosine.STD:YNP:Ch 5
- prime-discountsOnly ever marks down a customer's tab by a prime number of percentage points, because — she says — she has standards.STD:YNP:Ch 5
- sees-painter-via-cognitive-aspectReveals to Painter and Yumi that she can see his ghost-form because she is not a human but an immortal essence of pure Investiture with a fleshy shell stapled on; her strong Cognitive aspect lets her perceive Painter's Cognitive Shadow and the line of Connection joining him to the body Yumi is wearing — which she points out is plainly Nikaro's body, only rewritten.STD:YNP:Ch 17
- noodle-shop-as-human-experience-vacationTreats running the Noodle Pupil as a working vacation — an item ticked off her list of human experiences to try — and counts learning seventeen kinds of noodles and acquiring a loyal clientele as the trip's success metric. She declines worship while on vacation, which, she informs Yumi, is a rule she has just made up.STD:YNP:Ch 17
- lengthens-painter-yumi-connectionSits at the bar of the Noodle Pupil and physically stretches the Connection between Painter and Yumi like a glowing cord between her fingers, lengthening it to several blocks so the two can move apart without yanking each other — a fix she diagnoses as the most she can offer without Hoid's help.STD:YNP:Ch 21
- instructed-to-observe-human-pairingsDesign tells Painter that when Hoid gave her this human form, he asked her to study how humans interact and pair off — partly because her own ideas about how bonds form are, by her own admission, wildly inaccurate and amusingly so.STD:YNP:Ch 26
Events
- STD:YNP:Ch 5 Banters with Painter across the bar of the Noodle Pupil, cooks his usual bowl of noodles, gives him a ninety-seven percent discount, and offers — unsubtly — to tell Akane and Tojin that he is lonely.
- STD:YNP:Ch 16 Emerges from the Noodle Pupil's kitchen carrying a bowl of soup, sees Painter's incorporeal form clearly across the bar, and drops the bowl in shock — asking, audibly, whether Nikaro has died.
- STD:YNP:Ch 17 Mops up the dropped bowl, identifies Painter as a Cognitive Shadow and Yumi as the source of the body rewrite, declares herself a spirit on vacation, smacks Yumi on the head with a spoon for trying to pray to her, and points at the coatrack-Hoid as the only person who could properly diagnose the swap.
- STD:YNP:Ch 21 Behind the bar at the Noodle Pupil, gently lengthens the Painter–Yumi cord between her fingers, calls herself incorrigibly useless in her Pattern, and promises to dig out one of Hoid's devices to confirm Yumi's homeworld.
- STD:YNP:Ch 26 Emerges from the kitchen, slides into the chair beside Painter's, claims she is supposed to be acting jealous of Yumi, and quietly admits Hoid asked her to watch how humans pair off — then lets Painter talk about why he likes Yumi until the intervention at the next table pulls his attention away.
- STD:YNP:Ch 30 Bustles over to the clique's table to complain that painter business is being kept from her in her own shop, claims the rules do not apply to her since she is neither a person nor truly alive, and explains the crowd: the landing broadcast is about to start.
- STD:YNP:Ch 30 Turns on the shop's viewer for the landing broadcast, supplying the cue the rest of the city has been waiting on all evening.
- STD:YNP:Ch 32 Disproves the time-travel theory with the math, hauls Hoid's soul-reading fabrial out of the kitchen storage, drives off customers — *Can't you see that I'm talking to a ghost and reading his girlfriend's spiritweb?* — and reads both of them.
- STD:YNP:Ch 32 Leaves the bar still wearing her apron and joins them at the shroud — startled enough by the woman reaching out of the dark that even she scuttles back to the wall, and warns against trusting anything that takes shape out of nightmare material.
- STD:YNP:Ch 33 Brings Masaka in, introduces her by her true name, gushes that the back-room walls of numbers are *real art*, then disappears to fetch paper and run her restaurant.
- SA:RoW:Ch 80 Materialises beside Wit in the dream-bubble, plays an inaudible-fingered flute under his story, repeatedly spoils the ending, and announces with delight that *dogs can't be dragons*.
- SA:RoW:Epilogue Rides on Wit's coat humming peppily, calls out the coin hidden in his belt, points out he could vanish it with Lightweaving, and pronounces his preference for the cheaper illusion stupid before zipping off after the Sja-anat-corrupted windspren.
- SA:WaT:Ch 14 Pulses on the wall behind Wit as Jasnah whispers her grievances; then scurries down to him when he leaps from the bed.
