Maraga Dulcet
Editor-in-chief of Bilming's Sentinel of Truth. A short, grey-and-black-haired woman with a wan, weight-lost look, dressed in a waistcoat done up through the wrong buttonholes and a rumpled long skirt — the dishevelment of a person who has stopped leaving the building. Did her journeymanship at the city's top paper, the *Times*, before deciding she preferred being honest about printing *whimsical what-ifs*. Sits up in the office attic with a rifle, half-convinced Wax has come to kill her the way they killed Tobal — until she places the name *Dawnshot* and decides he must be Jak's friend. MB2:TLM:Ch 32
Known facts
- trained-at-times-runs-tabloidDid her journeymanship at the city's *Times*, the respectable top paper, where the casual fudging and outright fabrication scandalised her enough to walk. Now runs the Sentinel of Truth on the principle that at least its readers know what they are buying — *whimsical what-ifs*, adventurer tales, cartoons, photographs of funny-shaped vegetables.MB2:TLM:Ch 32
- tobal-coppers-secret-collaboratorHas been Tobal Copper's secret outside collaborator for nearly four years, working from a Sentinel of Truth office she has progressively turned into a barricade — taking the documents he stole back from his employers and piecing them into a long-running investigation she has been too frightened to publish.MB2:TLM:Ch 32
- writes-the-case-in-tinHas spent four years compiling Tobal Copper's smuggled evidence onto scratched tin plates in her basement — a journalist's shorthand of the whole Set case, deliberately copied in metal *just in case*, in conscious echo of the Words of Founding. Admits she lost her nerve at the end and never published any of it.MB2:TLM:Ch 33
Events
- MB2:TLM:Ch 32 Sits in the office attic with a trembling rifle aimed at Wax through a broken shutter, lowers it when she recognises *Dawnshot*, runs the visitors through her "those people with the golden hair" test before Marasi names the Set and the Ashmounts correctly, then takes them down to the metal-plated basement.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 33 Walks Wax and Marasi through the tin plates she has been compiling for four years, hands them the salvaged Hasting letter and the colour photograph, and slumps back down on the basement steps as if waiting for them to shoot her like she expects everyone to.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 34 Ducks behind Wax when Telsin glances at her, calls Tobal a good man to the woman who killed him, and stays in the basement when the rest of the team peels away.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 36 Standing frazzled in the main floor of the Sentinel of Truth offices clutching a travel bag, asking Marasi where it is safe to go; sent to the Knightbridge safehouse with Moonlight's card, then leaves to fetch her sister.
