The Rocket
The Set's in-development self-propelled weapon — what Tobal Copper called *the rocket* in stolen project memos. Designed to fly miles, perhaps hundreds of miles, before detonating; vastly outranging the much shorter-actual-range of Bilming's new naval guns. The delivery vehicle for the harmonium bomb Telsin means to drop on Elendel. As of Tobal's notes the fuel is the problem; Maraga believes that is why detonation slipped past its target date two weeks ago. The bomb itself, they have proven, works. MB2:TLM:Ch 33
Known facts
- navy-cover-and-range-confirmedAmong the water-soaked papers in the captured truck Wax finds a half-readable notebook of test-launch records. The self-propelled rockets reach thirty or forty miles — the navy's blue-water exercises were the cover under which they were fired and observed, and the dates line up exactly with Gave's periodic *vacations*. The current design does not yet quite reach Elendel, but the notebook is filled with proposals for closing the gap.MB2:TLM:Ch 55
- launched-from-independence-towerReading the captured notebook on the Bilming billboard, Wax works out that the Set's last-chance rocket — a much larger build than the test models, with a vicious dead-man's switch on the warhead — needs height and isolation to reach Elendel without catching Bilming in the blast. Watching the floodlights and new construction at the top of Independence Tower, he concludes the *new floors* are nothing of the sort: the spire is the launch platform.MB2:TLM:Ch 58
