Moonlight
also known as Kim, The masked intruder, the masked intruder
A self-assured woman with straight black hair in a ponytail, prominent cheekbones, and a shape to her eyes Marasi has never seen — claims to be one hundred percent human but not from this world, and not from any local nation she names. On a red tattoo above her wrist she wears the three-diamond sigil. *Moonlight* is a code name; her organisation likes those. She has inserted herself into Marasi's Bilming sting as Marasi's truck driver, ostensibly to watch. MB2:TLM:Ch 20
A slender figure with straight black hair and a thief-style black cloth mask over her face who blurs into Marasi's slowness bubble in the captured cavern, inspects the bound gangsters and the dead Cycle in an eyeblink, and blurs out again before any constables arrive. Wayne passes no-one on his way back in. MB2:TLM:Ch 8 superseded at MB2:TLM:Ch 20
Known facts
- organisation-defends-scadrialShe tells Marasi her organisation *defends Scadrial* and has to move very carefully, because there are forces on this world — Harmony included — that could crush them if they put a foot wrong. They do not work for Harmony.MB2:TLM:Ch 20
- impersonating-constableReplaced one of the night-watch constables assigned to drive Marasi's truck on the Bilming sting — the woman herself unharmed — to insert herself at Marasi's elbow for the ride south. She remains in disguise as the constable until Marasi sees the three-diamond tattoo on her wrist.MB2:TLM:Ch 20
- has-mentor-and-ordersCornering Marasi alone in a Bilming records-office corridor, Moonlight reveals two pieces of her own command structure: she has a *mentor* who reports above her, and that mentor has issued *orders* that loosen the no-interference rule. She is now permitted to help — but only Marasi directly, not Wax or Wayne, whose connections to Harmony worry the mentor. Her aid is conditional: tell anyone she is more than the researcher *Kim* and she walks.MB2:TLM:Ch 29
- marasi-tour-is-an-auditionTells Marasi in the cab to the Knightbridge safehouse that her hesitations and half-revelations have been an audition; the three-diamond organisation she works for needs allies in the Basin, and Marasi is being measured for one.MB2:TLM:Ch 36
- three-stamps-on-strikeMoonlight carries three soulstamps on the tire-factory strike — two *universal* stamps (one that makes a doorway appear where none was, one that repairs a broken or worn object back to new) and a personal Essence Mark she will only deploy in a true emergency. Each stamp can be re-used, but each individual application lasts only a limited window, and crafting new ones requires more time than they have.MB2:TLM:Ch 42
- can-rewind-burned-pages-with-a-stampWhen a lab-shack scientist tries to burn the non-lethal Hemalurgy notebooks before they can be captured, Marasi kicks the trash can over but the writings are already charred past reading. Moonlight pockets the burned remnants and assures her she can *rewind that later, with a stamp* — a casual reminder that her Forgery can roll an object's history backward as readily as forward, given enough of the original.MB2:TLM:Ch 50
- soulstamp-emergency-doorPressed against a wall by a guard inside the lab shack, Moonlight palms a soulstamp without warning and falls backward through a fresh door cut into the wall behind her, taking the surprised guard with her — and finishes him on the far side, where his cry won't carry. Marasi catches only a flash of the stamp before the door vanishes. The improvisation costs them their stealth a moment later, but it is the kind of move Moonlight has clearly been carrying as a panic button.MB2:TLM:Ch 50
- essence-mark-rewrites-her-permanentlyCornered by Set trackers in a hidden room of the Community cavern, Moonlight tells Marasi what the Essence Mark in her folio actually does. Unlike a stamp applied to an object, this one rewrites her own past: her soul will believe her parents moved to a different kingdom on her homeworld and that she grew up there instead, with different training and different talents. The transformation stays in force until she chooses to drop it, but it costs her her own memories — she does not think as herself in that shape, and she has long feared that one of these days she will go under and not come back. She has wanted to try this specific mark for years; the jar of pure Investiture is what finally lets her.MB2:TLM:Ch 53
Events
- MB2:TLM:Ch 20 Drives Marasi's truck the whole way into Bilming in the place of one of the night-watch constables; reveals her three-diamond tattoo, identifies as the cavern intruder, and delivers the cosmere primer on Autonomy, avatars, and Telsin.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 22 Sitting in the cab of Marasi's truck when Bilming constables flood the warehouse; shrugs that she had no idea this was coming.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 29 Plays the spectacled junior researcher *Kim*, dropping ledgers and grinning sheepishly; then ambushes Marasi alone in a records-office hallway to extract her terms and lay out the deal.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 30 Maintains the *Kim* act through the apartment search — wringing hands, asking why they're bothering when the Set has been over the place — and asks Wayne what *he* contributes to the team.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 32 Stays in her *Kim* persona, explains Bilming's surviving wooden fishing-shack buildings, and follows the group into the Sentinel of Truth's basement print room.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 33 Recognises the gun-trajectory sketches on Maraga's tin plates for what they are, openly takes rubbings of the rest while Wax and Marasi read, and points out the seismograph log showing the underground tests recently stopped.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 34 Stays frozen outside the Wayne-speed-bubble huddle, then becomes Marasi's partner for the Bilming cavern infiltration when the team splits — and, Marasi privately notes, the source of secrets she now has time to pry into.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 36 With Marasi in the Sentinel of Truth basement, then driving with her to the Knightbridge safehouse; admits the trip is an audition.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 39 Walks Marasi into the Knightbridge safehouse, lounges by the bookshelf while TwinSoul does the math, and sets the moment up so that Marasi sees the aether for the first time.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 40 At the Knightbridge safehouse for the call with Kelsier; opens the sleeping safe with the *Respect* command, takes the three jars of purified Dor, kits out for the tire factory strike, and tells Marasi how the Ghostbloods make aluminum.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 42 Dressed as a Bilming constable, riding the elevated train with Marasi and TwinSoul to the tire factory; details her three stamps and proposes scouting the back of the building for a quiet wall to cut a door through.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 44 Halts the strike team in the alley as Gave Entrone arrives at the factory; produces the leather wallet of stamps and cuts a fresh door through the back wall into a cluttered side room.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 45 First into the model room behind the projection; sifts boxes of fake ash through her fingers and re-frames Marasi's read of the hoax — *they are building a record of an Elendel that has already ended.* Stamps the corridor wall open onto the freight elevator shaft.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 47 Descends from the elevator roof behind Marasi, talks her out of executing the bored guards, and lays out the Ghostbloods' tenets under cover of TwinSoul's roseite shell. Reads the non-lethal spike technique as a potentially huger reveal than Marasi does — a step toward spiking from raw Investiture, not souls.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 50 Goes in second through the lab-shack window, stamps a temporary door into the wall to dump her grappling guard out of the room, then helps Marasi bind the surviving scientists and pockets the burned Hemalurgy notes to *rewind later*.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 51 Holds the line behind the roseite barricade with Marasi, hands TwinSoul a jar of pure Investiture to feed the construct, and then peels off with Marasi toward the Community while TwinSoul draws the soldiers.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 53 Slips past patrols beside Marasi in stolen lab coats, stamps open a hidden door into one of the bisecting wall's rooms, then — when the trackers close in and soldiers converge outside — finally draws her Essence Mark, warns Marasi what it will do to her, and presses it to her wrist.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 54 Draws the entire jar of pure Investiture in one motion, presses the Essence Mark to her wrist, and transforms into Shay-I — leaving the room as a different person entirely before the trackers break through.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 8 Blurs into the slowness bubble for an eyeblink, meets Marasi's eyes, and is gone again before any constable arrives.
