Cord
also known as Hualinam'lunanaki'akilu
A young Horneater woman Lopen proposes to take in Rock's place — she can swim, can see spren, and wants to see more of the world; Rua likes her. SA:DS:Ch 2
Known facts
- sees-hidden-sprenHer Horneater gift of sight extends to spren that wish not to be seen — including the apaliki'tokoa'a (luckspren) she counts circling the Wandersail as it nears Akinah; this is why Rushu and the Radiants brought her along.SA:DS:Ch 8
- shards-for-the-peaksCord's personal reason for joining the Akinah expedition is to find treasures — Blades, Plate, anything that will let her people stand on the world stage: she believes the Horneater Peaks are about to become strategically valuable to every strong nation, and that the only protection against being *protected* by the Alethi is to have Shards and Radiants of their own.SA:DS:Ch 13
- father-refuses-shardsCord's father is the one Horneater holding both a Shardblade and Shardplate, the only Shards on the Peaks; he refuses on principle to use either, and she resents the choice — she thinks he could be both Shardbearer and Radiant, and is instead choosing tradition over his people.SA:DS:Ch 13
- watcher-of-the-poolCord's family hold the hereditary office of *watcher of the pool* over Cultivation's Perpendicularity on the Horneater Peaks — her grandmother held the post in her own day — and Nikli treats her presence on the Akinah expedition as a serious complication on those grounds alone.SA:DS:Ch 14
- dons-akinah-plateIn the small mural chamber beneath Akinah, Cord becomes a Shardbearer — the Plate there bonds to her greaves as soon as she hooks Rysn's loose rubies into the gem-slots; the breastplate she carries off into the great corridor in search of more free gemstones.SA:DS:Ch 15
- declines-dawnshard-guardian-for-nowOffered the role of guardian of the Dawnshard as the price of keeping the half-suit of Plate she has bonded, Cord refuses for now — she is no warrior yet; she will first go to war and learn, fighting the Void as her father refuses to do, and only then consider the Sleepless' request. She does vow, on the honour of both her parents, to keep the secret.SA:DS:Ch 19
- keeps-akinah-shardplateAboard the Wandersail on the return voyage, Cord keeps the Shardplate she bonded under Akinah — guarding Rysn's door in full Plate while Rysn tells Captain Drlwan that whoever first claims a Shard traditionally keeps it, and that the five Soulcasters going to Thaylenah are wealth enough to settle the Alethi's inevitable complaints.SA:DS:Epilogue
Events
- SA:DS:Ch 5 Discovers the worms in the lavis barrels while drawing supplies for the galley and apologises in halting Alethi for the bad news.
- SA:DS:Ch 8 Brings Rysn a bowl of her fish stew, switches the conversation into Veden, and tells her that the santhid was one of the Gods Who Sleep Not and that twelve apaliki'tokoa'a are circling the ship overhead.
- SA:DS:Ch 9 Names her real reason for sailing — *treasure*, the Akinah of Horneater story; later inspects the bound Nikli for unusual spren at Rysn's request and finds nothing.
- SA:DS:Ch 10 Kept below by Lopen for the duration of the storm; Klisn is sent to fetch her once the Wandersail breaks into the calm eye and the spike-wall of Akinah comes into view.
- SA:DS:Ch 11 Reports the luckspren circling out of reach of the island and kneels beside Rysn's chair to watch Chiri-Chiri and the sky together.
- SA:DS:Ch 13 Sits the quiet quarterdeck with Rysn and opens up about why she came on the expedition; thanks Rysn for not believing her evil when Nikli tried to frame her.
- SA:DS:Ch 14 Steps between Rysn and the reassembled Nikli, answers him in Horneater, picks a loud argument to mask preparation, then heaves Rysn over her shoulder and dives them both off the Wandersail into the bay.
- SA:DS:Ch 15 Swims Rysn from the Wandersail down through the spren-lit tunnel into the cavern under Akinah, finds the cache of Plate and Soulcaster devices, and bonds the Plate's greaves to her legs.
- SA:DS:Ch 18 Returns from the vault corridor in the Plate's greaves and breastplate, slams a spear-butt down, and challenges Nikli to a death-duel on the strength of a Horneater treaty he has never heard of; later kneels by Rysn and coaches her to appeal to the Sleepless' role as guardians of life.
- SA:DS:Ch 19 Helps coach Rysn through the negotiation, declines the role of Dawnshard guardian for now, vows on the honour of her parents to keep the secret, and quietly powers the last gemstones of the Plate in case the Sleepless vote goes the wrong way.
- SA:DS:Epilogue Holds vigil in full Shardplate outside Rysn's cabin door as the Wandersail sails out of the storm around Akinah.
- SA:OB:Ch 40 Lunamor's sixteen-year-old daughter, twin to Gift, speaks only Veden among the lowlander languages; one of the faces behind the furniture wall.
- SA:RoW:Ch 5 Stands near Dalinar in the full set of Shardplate she came back from Aimia in, Amaram's old Shardbow strapped across her back.
- SA:RoW:Ch 6 "The Horneater bridgeman's daughter — the Shardbearer" — stands close beside her father near Dalinar on the top deck.
- SA:RoW:Ch 47 Among Dalinar's bodyguards on the platform in Shardplate; lands an arrow in Nale's face from her Shardbow and looses a second that the Herald plucks out of the air with one hand.
