the Greater Good
The governing body of Beacon — invoked by Zeal as the authority Rebeke defied when she went back for her sister, and as the council to whom her sister must now be petitioned. Not yet seen in person. STD:TSM:Ch 7
Known facts
- on-the-queue-themselvesAre themselves on Beacon's queue to be left for the sun. Contemplation tells Nomad that she and her sisters in the Greater Good were to go next, with three others to take their places, but the Refuge plan has put it off — the city decided not to make new sunhearts for this venture, and is low on power.STD:TSM:Ch 15
- accept-refuge-betrayal-with-resigned-graceWhen the TimeTellers refuse Rebeke's kneeling plea and Confidence's offer to trade for sanctuary, the Greater Good do not rage — they accept. Contemplation tells Zellion he did everything they asked of him and more, and that they had been pointed in this direction for many rotations. As they ride the elevator back up to their doomed people, Contemplation tells Zellion to *stay with your kind*.STD:TSM:Ch 44
Events
- STD:TSM:Ch 19 The full trio convenes around Nomad in the command-ship cabin to take stock of the disaster — and, one by one, stand to declare that they go on.
- STD:TSM:Epilogue Compassion, Confidence, and Contemplation are pulled out of the mud first, muddy and exhausted, and listen as Rebeke briefs them on the recharge knowledge and on the choice she is making to remain only a symbol.
