Elegy
also known as the silver-streaked ember woman, the ember woman with silver hair
Rebeke's older sister and, before her capture, the appointed Lodestar of Beacon — the planner whose vision led the refugees into the dark zone in the first place. She is the silver-streaked ember warrior Rebeke broke faction policy to drag out of the arena; in her current ember-warrior state she only growls and strains against the manacles holding her in the hovercycle's back seat. A particular ember warrior in the arena — short black hair streaked with silver, light green eyes, a vein of blackness scored across her left cheek with a single glowing line running down its centre. She fights with a long machete rather than the whip her two companions carry, and she ignores every other quarry in the ring to come after Nomad alone. STD:TSM:Ch 3 superseded at STD:TSM:Ch 7

- STD:TSM:Ch 20 Dragged chained into the workshop that was once hers and pinned to the wall by six men; in her late thirties, silvery-black hair cut short, light green eyes, one ember mark glowing on the left cheek and the great ember pulsing in her chest. Shows no flicker of recognition for the room.
- STD:TSM:Ch 21 Chained to the workshop wall while Nomad tests his soul-siphon theory on her — pressing the spent sunheart against her arm and her ember, speaking prayer after prayer over her. Nothing takes; she only growls and strains at the manacles.
- STD:TSM:Ch 24 Has the Cinder King's grip drained off her cinderheart, speaks for the first time since her capture — and recognises no one. Frees her own legs when Rebeke in joy unlatches a manacle, and lunges for Nomad's throat.
- STD:TSM:Ch 25 Beats Nomad very nearly senseless before he can recuff her — proving that his grappling expertise is no answer to a cinderheart-powered body. Afterward, exhausted in her chains, she has a quiet, halting conversation with Nomad about who she is now, and invites him to fight her so they can both be alive. He declines.
- STD:TSM:Ch 29 Chained to the wall of the Dawnchaser's main chamber, allowed to sit cross-legged in the corner. Watches Nomad at the controls and sees through what the others have read as prayer: he is talking to someone in his head, the way she once was. They talk through the climb — about the voice that used to tell her who to kill, about why Nomad does not fight, about purpose. She makes him admit that he lives now to run and is not satisfied by it; she closes her eyes, says she sees, and thanks him.
- STD:TSM:Ch 30 Briefly attended to before Nomad depressurises the cab — he apologises in advance for what the open door is about to do to her air supply, and trusts her Investiture to keep her alive while it bleeds out. She asks, before he goes, why he cares about her at all. He answers that human beings have a natural sense of decency and that the burning away of hers does not change the rest of them.
- STD:TSM:Ch 31 Lies unconscious in the corner of the Dawnchaser cabin throughout the descent. Nomad checks her in passing and hopes she is only unconscious.
- STD:TSM:Ch 37 Sits manacled in the cab in her Charred state, watching Nomad fight twenty Charred on the deck through an open door. The text follows him; her reaction will become its own cab-scene next chapter.
