The Interplanetary Ship
also known as the ship, the launch
A long-planned vessel built by Painter's people that rides hion up out of the shroud and across the night to the bright neighbouring planet — the star in their sky. After years of delays and one earlier postponement because the shroud was too thick, the news reports its launch is now imminent. Painter realises the destination is almost certainly Yumi's world. Known facts
- destination-is-yumis-worldPainter realises mid-conversation at the Noodle Pupil that the long-delayed launch is bound for the bright neighbouring world in his sky — almost certainly Yumi's — and Design confirms her people's pre-arrival survey targeted that planet rather than the shroud-wrapped one Painter lives on.STD:YNP:Ch 21
- rides-mobile-hion-lines-back-to-home-planetThe ship travels along a pair of mobile hion lines anchored back at Painter's planet — the lines themselves push the vessel forward like a train track that can be extended in flight, and on arrival are dropped down to the surface to anchor it.STD:YNP:Ch 30
Events
- STD:YNP:Ch 30 Completes its orbit of the bright planet, extends its mobile hion lines down through the atmosphere, lands, and turns its camera outward to show what comes up to meet it.
