Trellium
A strange metal — slivers of silvery steel flecked with rust-coloured spots — that no kandra and no Allomancer in Elendel had been able to identify when one example was recovered from Paalm's corpse years ago. Marasi is the first to recover a fresh sample from a living user, in the form of a thin Hemalurgic spike taken from the dead Cycle's chest. MB2:TLM:Ch 6
Known facts
- physical-characterisationLab work in Wax's basement gives trellium its first numbers: hardness just above nine on the scratch scale — scored only by diamond — brittle rather than pliable, and so refractory that neither a gas burner nor an electric current pushed past three thousand degrees will melt it. Filed shavings burn, and produce a spectrometer trace that runs flat across the full visible spectrum and then swings off the page past the red — the signature Wax has only seen once before, from harmonium. Like harmonium, it is a God Metal.MB2:TLM:Ch 13
- repels-investitureLab work in Wax's basement establishes that trellium repels all sources of Investiture like a magnet — it rolls away from a harmonium bead, from Wax burning steel without Pushing, and from the other Hemalurgic spikes Marasi pulled from the Cycle. The repulsion grows stronger the closer the source, and the response to harmonium is markedly stronger than the response to a burning Allomancer. Wax suspects it could be turned into a mechanical Seeker.MB2:TLM:Ch 15
- matter-energy-transferenceHeating and stretching a harmonium nugget under current and then touching trellium to it produces what Harmony calls an *Invested matter-energy transference* — a small fraction of the matter in the sample is released as raw energy, generating a blast far in excess of what mere chemical detonation could account for. Half a gram annihilates a reinforced safe box, demolishes the surrounding lab, and drives the safe-box door deep into concrete. Bare contact between the two metals is dangerous; the heated configuration is catastrophic.MB2:TLM:Ch 17
- harmony-confirms-transferenceHarmony, speaking through VenDell, confirms what the basement blast suggested: trellium repels other Investiture, mere contact with harmonium is dangerous, and heating-and-stretching the harmonium before driving the trellium through it produces an *Invested matter-energy transference* — *very bad*. Harmony is frightened; this time it is different.MB2:TLM:Ch 18
