VenDell
also known as the man in the brown suit, the man in brown
A kandra Faceless Immortal who appears at Ladrian Mansion in a prim new body — perfectly styled blond hair, wire-framed spectacles, brown suit, the air of *a man who fact-checks people's jokes*. Wax recognises him by manner alone. He delivers the masked figure's note to Marasi, deflects Wax's questions about Lessie's trellium spikes, and has come — by Harmony's arrangement — to play the Cycle's corpse for Marasi's Bilming infiltration. MB2:TLM:Ch 15
A kandra Faceless Immortal currently wearing the body of a tall, slender man in a dark-brown suit and bow tie. He intercepts Wax twice on his wedding morning — outside the hideout, then inside the Survivorist Church's antechamber — to deliver a job from Harmony. He gives no name and reveals himself only by turning his skin briefly translucent to show the skull beneath, and confesses, almost grudgingly, that Harmony has lately been *distracted*. Known facts
- wears-breeze-bonesMentions in passing that the skull he is currently inhabiting is a sixth-century anteverdant taken from a Urteau metal merchant, and that he keeps Breeze's hands for *special occasions* — Breeze having willed them to him after death. Wax realises he has just shaken hands with his ancestor's corpse.MB2:BoM:Ch 3
- first-contract-pacifismPressed to *take down* armed enemies, VenDell explains he keeps the First Contract like almost all kandra — he cannot kill or even hurt a living being, much less a human. He names MeLaan and TenSoon as the only kandra capable in a fight; the rest of his kin, he says, *abhor* it.MB2:TLM:Ch 23
- counted-as-friend-by-wayneAfter VenDell makes his skin transparent to try to intimidate Lord Mayor Entrone and is dismissed as a *talking piece of slime*, Wayne silently goes to bat for him — and afterwards, asked outright, calls VenDell his friend. The crew, Wayne explains, includes a *stuck-up one we make fun of*; VenDell is on the inside of that joke now.MB2:TLM:Ch 27
Events
- MB2:BoM:Ch 1 First, accosts Wax outside the Migs hideout and is brushed off. Second, beats Wax to the Survivorist Church antechamber, hands over the wedding pendants in Wayne's crumpled note, briefly turns his skin translucent to identify himself as a kandra, confesses Harmony has been *distracted* of late, and is told *no*.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 2 Walks around the kitchen counter behind Marasi and announces, calmly, that she is his second choice for an errand Wax has just refused, and that she'd better hope she knows something about Identity and Investiture.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 3 Lets himself into Wax's study while the staff are away, runs the projector through a chart of Feruchemical metals, then through ReLuur's photographs of the murals — and finally through the New Seran street scene with Telsin in it.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 4 Returns to Ladrian Mansion within two hours with tickets, a folder of ReLuur's transcripts, and a dusty old earring — which Wax refuses to take. Asks for Wayne's skeleton when Wayne is dead.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 17 Translucently pale as he delivers the cosmere physics lesson; excuses himself to take the news of the matter-energy reaction up to Harmony.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 18 Returns from communing with Harmony; relays the *Invested matter-energy transference* warning and is re-ordered into Marasi's sting as the Cycle's face.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 20 Playing the Cycle's face for the receiving cell; rides somewhere in the trucked convoy as part of Marasi's sting team.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 21 Wears Granks's body — and his accent — to play the Cycle at the Bilming warehouse, demanding to speak directly to the Sequence on the pretext that the radios are compromised.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 23 Recites his First Contract pacifism under pressure, agrees to play decoy, takes a bullet to the forehead in the open, tackles the Sequence mid-flask, and later flies past Marasi with a broken neck and slurred jaw to inform her that he is going to bill her for these bones.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 26 Sits exhausted against the wall, bones still stitched together with sinew from his earlier disguise; his skin goes faintly transparent and green as he confesses Harmony's blindness and the *dark shadow* behind him.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 27 Offers Entrone a *higher authority* and makes his skin transparent so the skull and stitched bones show through; the mayor calls him a puppet.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 28 Stays behind when the others leave, undertaking to care for Marsh and to tend the wounded constables in the hospital.
