Non-Lethal Hemalurgy
A refinement of Hemalurgy the Set's researchers — pushing forward on Edwarn's earlier work — have isolated in the caverns beneath Bilming. A long, thin spike is threaded through and back out of the subject's upper back, drawing off a small portion of the trace Investiture every person carries from Preservation and Ruin — *vestigial,* in those who never manifested powers. The subject survives. A single spike measures only a few percent Invested, and a fully charged one takes the contributions of twenty or thirty people; they cannot yet code the result to a specific Metallic Art, though brief, fading manifestations of Allomancy have been observed. - five-percent-yield-per-subjectIn the demonstration Marasi watches through the window of the lab shack, a thin spike threaded through and back out of an exhausted prisoner's upper back draws roughly five percent of a full charge — and the subject survives. The Set's head scientist explains that everyone carries trace Investiture from Preservation and Ruin as part of their making, with a little extra in those whose powers never manifested; that *vestigial* portion can be sliced off and stored in the spike. Fully charging one takes twenty to thirty people. The technique is credited to refinement of Edwarn's earlier work.MB2:TLM:Ch 47
- set-bred-tracker-strainMarasi recognises the four-legged, long-necked, human-eyed monstrosities tracking them through the caverns as a deliberately bred Hemalurgic strain — built by the same refined-spike research that produced the non-lethal art. The Set has succeeded in finding a permutation of the spikes that survives and stays usable but warps the subject into something canine-shaped, with shoulder-spikes still visible and a mind that hunts like a person.MB2:TLM:Ch 53
