Wayne
One of Wax's old Roughs deputies — a lanky, sharp-chinned man in a wide-brimmed hat and leather duster, fond of accents, fake mustaches, and trading household objects for whatever happens to be lying nearby. He is Twinborn, a Slider who can warp time around himself with bendalloy Allomancy. MB2:AoL:Ch 2
One of Wax's deputies in the Roughs, working the far side of the town of Feltrel during the hunt for Bloody Tan. Known to Lessie as a card player and storyteller, and reputedly Twinborn himself. MB2:AoL:Prologue superseded at MB2:AoL:Ch 2
Known facts
- twinborn-slider-fast-healerTwinborn — a Slider (a bendalloy Allomancer who can throw up a speed bubble of compressed time) paired with a Feruchemical talent for healing quickly from wounds.MB2:AoL:Ch 2
- feruchemical-art-is-bloodmakerHis Feruchemical talent is the Bloodmaker art — storing health by spending periods sickly so he can tap a metalmind later and close bullet wounds in seconds. He spent two weeks bedridden after Wax left in order to fill up.MB2:AoL:Ch 6
- killed-far-dorest-bookkeeperAt sixteen, panicking during a robbery in Far Dorest, he shot and killed a charitable bookkeeper — a man who drew up wills and read letters for mineworkers as charity. He was condemned to hang for it before Wax saved his life. He has never carried a gun since, sends half of everything he earns to the dead man's family, and receives letters from them that refuse to forgive him.MB2:AoL:Ch 10
- father-was-a-feruchemistHis father was a Feruchemist — which is how he knew, before Wax ever picked him up, that storing health required gold. He grew up around the art without being trained in it.MB2:AoL:Ch 10
- hat-method-of-infiltrationBelieves hats — and the worn, used clothing that goes with them — are load-bearing pieces of a man's identity, and that putting on a slum-dweller's cap with the right accent and the right slump of shoulders is enough to belong wherever you walk in Elendel. The trick depends on doing the trade fairly (whiskey for cap, in the Breakouts); a man who lifts a hat outright is a thief, but a man who trades for it has bought the right to wear it.MB2:SoS:Ch 3
- killed-allriandres-fatherKilled Allriandre's father in an alley mugging — shot the man for his pocketbook — and considers him the better man. Brings the man's daughter an envelope of restitution money every month at the university and submits to her ritual of looking at her father's evanotype, saying aloud what he did, and being told he is not, and will never be, forgiven.MB2:SoS:Ch 5
- found-by-wax-and-jonAt sixteen was found by Wax and Jon Deadfinger curled in the crawl space under a house with his hands clamped over his ears, his guns thrown down a nearby well, complaining of the shots he could still hear coming from inside it. Wax tells him on a canal dock years later that if they had found him in the act of armed robbery instead, he would have shot him.MB2:SoS:Ch 6
- flooded-wax-weddingHired *some lads* to sabotage the bolts on the water tower above the Survivorist Church in order to collapse Wax and Steris's wedding. They overdid it; the dome's hinged section gave way and a wall of water came down on the dais. Wayne then hid in the wedding breakfast kitchen in chef's whites pretending to abuse assistant cooks until Marasi hunted him down.MB2:BoM:Ch 2
- says-goodbye-to-ranetteSpends the day before the New Seran train on a self-styled *quest* to bring Ranette a proper farewell offering — silver fork traded for meat buns traded for an enforcement officer's notebook — and leaves it in her doorframe with a note that reads *thank you and goodbye*. Run into her on the way out, he tells her he means it; the man who has been wanting her for years is willing, finally, to stop wanting her.MB2:BoM:Ch 4
- takes-up-with-melaanActing on his understanding that Marasi's *move on* before the goodbye to Ranette was permission to do exactly that, Wayne takes up with MeLaan — and is found by Wax with her in a floor-luggage compartment during the Nightstreet raid, having missed the whole gunfight because they were down beside the noisy tracks for privacy. He doesn't, he says, like doing things halfway.MB2:BoM:Ch 9
- fourth-impersonation-of-deathOut in Fig's garden after frightening the cemetery manager into surrendering Dulsing as the destination, Wayne tells Marasi this was the fourth time he has had to play Death, and asks her to do the accent for him *for next time*.MB2:BoM:Ch 15
- can-tap-unkeyed-metalmindWax cuts Wayne's hand and it reseals at once — Wayne is drawing healing from a gold bracelet he never filled, an Identityless metalmind stuffed with so much power he could not sense it as a metalmind until told what it was.MB2:BoM:Ch 17
- kills-telsin-with-shotgunWayne catches Telsin alone in the snow trying to escape on the skimmer, puts a shotgun blast into her back, then lowers the barrel to her face and fires again. *You killed one of my friends today. I'm not going to let you take a second.* For the first time since the Roughs he has picked a gun back up and used it.MB2:BoM:Ch 29
- recovers-three-spikes-from-telsinAfter Wayne kills Telsin in the snow he walks away with three small Hemalurgic spikes in his fist — her own Set spike and the two she had cut out of MeLaan and pocketed in the chamber below.MB2:BoM:Ch 29
- tinweight-childhoodGrew up in Tinweight Settlement, a mining town, in a one-window shack beside the mine with his mother — sleeping on a mat on the ground, doing the laundry his mother had given up to push minecarts after his father was killed underground.MB2:TLM:Prologue
- terris-heritageHis father was Terris — a detail his mother confirms when Wayne asks her why, if Terris people always do what they're told, he himself can't.MB2:TLM:Prologue
- childhood-petty-thiefPilfered habitually as a boy — a deck of cards from one neighbour, a pocketknife from another — and told his mother that he didn't want to be a thief, it *just happened*. She made him return what he took and told him he was a good boy regardless.MB2:TLM:Prologue
- mother-killed-in-mineHis mother was killed in a mine collapse at Tinweight the day after she told him the tale of Allomancer Jak and Blatant Barm — the night she also told him he could be anything he wanted, and that anyone could be a lawman.MB2:TLM:Prologue
- mas-poemHis mother liked to recite a small poem over him at bedtime — telling him he was the wind, the stars, all endless things — and because she said it, he believed it.MB2:TLM:Prologue
- official-constableIs now an official Elendel constable rather than a deputised citizen, partnered with Marasi since Wax's retirement from law work. Wears a uniform when forced to and is nearly forty years old.MB2:TLM:Ch 1
- melaan-relationship-endingHis long-term relationship with MeLaan is winding down — she has told him plainly that she expects to break it off in a few weeks, on account of a new assignment from Harmony taking her away for long stretches.MB2:TLM:Ch 1
- handling-guns-againHas begun to handle and fire small arms in the field again — sparingly, mostly for cover fire rather than to kill — though Marasi has never seen him take a deliberate kill-shot, and he still discards each weapon the moment it's empty.MB2:TLM:Ch 4
- variable-size-bubblesHas been quietly practising at adjusting the size of his speed bubbles — making them larger or smaller at will, even shaping them to overlap one person inside a slowed enemy bubble and yank them out into normal time.MB2:TLM:Ch 4
- variable-bubble-overlapWayne's mastery of his speed bubble now extends to dropping his bubble inside Marasi's slowness bubble and cancelling the two against each other to create a pocket of normal time around the pair of them while the rest of the cavern stays frozen.MB2:TLM:Ch 8
- melaan-six-years-endedAfter six years together — two formally — MeLaan ends things with Wayne face to face at Ladrian Mansion before leaving on her Shadesmar mission. She tells him it was not the same to her as it was to him, that mortals see time differently, and that she actually asked for the assignment to force the clean break. She also tells him, on her way out, that he was the best lay she has known in seven hundred years — and it helps a little.MB2:TLM:Ch 12
- sense-of-worthlessnessAlone in the sitting room after MeLaan leaves, Wayne sits without a hat — and so without a persona to hide behind — and names what he has carried since childhood: the pain of knowing what he really is, the pain of being worthless.MB2:TLM:Ch 12
- cannonball-through-the-stomachRanette recalls — for Jaxy's benefit — that Wayne once took a cannonball through the stomach, was torn cleanly in half, and survived because his metalminds were on the piece with his head. He confirms it; it hurt less than one might expect, his body apparently confused enough by being in two pieces that the pain did not really catch up.MB2:TLM:Ch 14
- bowler-hat-accountants-creditorsThe two men in bowler hats and vests who have been shadowing Wayne across Elendel are not creditors at all but his accountants, who corner him outside the Drunken Spur and shove him into their car to discuss his investment strategy. He has, by their reading, far too much money, and his lack of diversification is a crime.MB2:TLM:Ch 14
- terrisborn-last-nameHas no proper family name, so his accountants ledger him as *Wayne Terrisborn*.MB2:TLM:Ch 16
- secret-fortuneSits on over twenty million boxings — built principally on early shares in Tarcsel Electric and on real-estate investments, plus an affordable-housing project that hit just before government subsidies followed. He hides it from Wax and Marasi: getting found out would be unbearable.MB2:TLM:Ch 16
- allriandre-payments-handed-offAsks the firm to handle Allriandre's monthly payment in his stead — claiming the meetings have become too inconvenient, in fact taking Jaxy's advice to stop forcing the visits on a woman who has asked him not to come.MB2:TLM:Ch 16
- noseball-league-fundingFunds an Elendel-wide noseball league out of his fortune — one team per octant, ticketed arenas, on the theory that the city needs a regulated way to be furious at strangers, the same way it needs bars.MB2:TLM:Ch 16
- mother-lawman-storyWayne tells Hoid that the last story his mother ever told him was about a lawman — a hero — and reflects with quiet self-loathing on the irony of having become a lawman himself. "Can't be no hero if you were a villain," he says. Hoid offers the counter that in most stories it is the villain who knows the hero best.MB2:TLM:Ch 21
- impersonation-rivals-kandraVenDell — himself wearing borrowed bones — tells Wayne it is *patently unfair* that a mortal can stand beside one of the Bearers of the Contract and match a kandra at imitation. Wayne's recipe: find someone the right height and age, top up the difference with wig, makeup and a rubber chin, then *stay in character* — accent and swagger included.MB2:TLM:Ch 21
- souls-are-off-limitsWrestling Getruda in the warehouse, Wayne articulates his thievery code one more time: some things are fair game (Wax's unused pocket watch) and some are off-limits (the watch Lessie gave him), and people's *souls* — what Hemalurgy takes — are *way* off-limits. He got his own powers the fair way: by being born with them.MB2:TLM:Ch 24
- trio-instinct-knowledge-whimsyPressed by *Kim* in Tobal Copper's apartment to explain why he is searching a place the Set has already turned over, Wayne lays out how he sees his own crew. Wax is *instinct* — lived a lot, been shot at a lot, never schooled, trained by Terris scholars in old writings instead. Marasi is *knowledge* — has read more books on being a constable than have actually been written, talks crime patterns and the mathematics of preventing poverty. Together they are practice and application. His own contribution: *comic relief*. Pressed: a little whimsy, improvisation, vision.MB2:TLM:Ch 30
- invested-in-electric-elevatorsRiding the elevator up to Tobal Copper's apartment, Wayne reflects that he had more faith in the technology back when human operators ran them — and notes, as proof people are too trusting of the strange power leaking out of the walls, that he is *a primary investor in the technology himself,* which ought to be a big red flag for everyone.MB2:TLM:Ch 30
- reads-every-allomancer-jakCheerfully admits to Wax that he has read *every one* of the Allomancer Jak serials. His self-defence is consistent: he can read, but he is *dumb*, so he can only read things that are dumb too.MB2:TLM:Ch 32
- shoots-telsin-with-shotgunRecap, as the story restates it: at the end of Telsin's mountaintop betrayal six years earlier, Wayne fired a shotgun blast into her chest — his first time firing a gun in years. Telsin healed and vanished from the bloodied snows.MB2:TLM:Ch 34
- burned-down-westhaven-schoolWayne mentions in passing that he burned down West's Haven nine years earlier — an *evil damn school*, in his estimation — and that it is the closest thing to formal schooling he ever had. Offered as casual context for why he believes one is supposed to throw cats hard enough to land them in trees.MB2:TLM:Ch 46
- truth-as-weaponCornered in the storm drain with his metalminds nearly drained and Getruda frankly better with the canes than he is, Wayne reaches for what he has been calling, in his head, *the truth.* He drops his usual accent, takes on the broken cadence of his earliest memories, and tells the doppelgangers that nothing they can do hurts more than what he already carries — *I'm already dead. I been dead for years, sister.* The performance freezes them long enough for him to drop his speed bubble unnoticed; Wax kills (or near enough) both of them in the same breath.MB2:TLM:Ch 49
- feeling-oldTrading blows with Getruda — younger, stronger, better-drilled — Wayne realises he has let his cane practice slide over the easy months with Marasi, and that this is what Wax must have been feeling for years. He is thirty-nine, his healing reserves are nearly empty, and after the fight he sits down on the concrete and admits, in his own way, that he feels old. He blames Wax for *infecting* him with it.MB2:TLM:Ch 49
- bury-the-corpse-of-who-you-wereOn a Bilming billboard with two bottles of Logshine and his health-store run dry, Wayne admits to Wax he has begun to suspect he can never do enough good to balance killing Durkel — that he might *always be worthless*. Wax tells him he is right that the debt cannot be paid: Durkel is dead and no number of good deeds will bring him back. But Wayne does not need forgiveness, because he is no longer the man who pulled that trigger; that man is buried in the Roughs and Wayne has been someone else for years. Wayne decides to stop storing health, and (out loud, with Wax still beside him) to leave that corpse buried.MB2:TLM:Ch 58
- talks-the-shaw-security-outFacing the Shaw's last gathered defence — building guards who never signed on for dark gods and city bombs — Wayne sets his pistol aside and just talks. He tells them what they are: hired watchmen with families to go home to. He tells them what they did not sign up for. He tells them about the door to their right, and that he and Wax are coming out shooting in a moment but anyone whose gun is already holstered as they make for the exit *won't be aimed at first.* When he and Wax step out, the room is empty. Wax is the sword; Wayne discovers that what he is, here, is a man who has been where they are.MB2:TLM:Ch 63
- spikes-himself-coinshotOn the Shaw floor, with Wax preparing to chase the warship out to sea, Wayne pulls a spike for himself from one of the dead doppelgangers and has Wax pound it into him, granting him steel for the duration of the charge. Aboard the ship he is, briefly, a Coinshot and is delighted by how easy it is — a Push-bullet barrage drops a sailor before either can draw. He admits, half-serious, that knowing how easy being a Coinshot is may ruin Wax's reputation.MB2:TLM:Ch 69
- drinks-lerasium-becomes-mistbornAlone on the warship after Pushing Wax overboard, Wayne drinks the red-corked vial he traded out of Wax's sheath, burns the lerasium inside, and is briefly made a full Mistborn — every Allomantic metal available to him at once. Harmony explains what matters about it: as a Mistborn he can now burn duralumin, which ignites *all* his other metals simultaneously at proportional power.MB2:TLM:Ch 71
- pushes-wax-off-the-warshipWorking out his own plan for the bomb in real time, Wayne realises the one thing that matters: it does not need Wax aboard. He hands Wax his rifle, ostensibly to fish in his pocket, and Steelpushes off the barrel of the rifle in Wax's hands — flinging his friend out over the railing into the dark waters below before Wax can object. He has been practising the crouching little hop Wax uses before a Push. He is proud of how it lands.MB2:TLM:Ch 71
- chooses-the-certain-solutionHarmony lays out two options for Wayne aboard the doomed warship: a near-impossible one-in-a-hundred chance to use his new Mistborn strength to brake the ship over the bay long enough to buy more time, or a sure solution — detonate the bomb's harmonium prematurely in the smaller water-reaction and die at the centre of the blast. Wayne picks the sure one. The conversation lets Harmony tell him, plainly, that he is not the best Harmony could have hoped for; he is the best there is, and no god could have asked for more.MB2:TLM:Ch 71
- wears-sazeds-hatBefore pouring everything he has into one perfectly shaped speed bubble, Wayne asks Harmony for a hat — the old Wayne trick of wearing a man's hat to understand him, here taken to its limit by asking for the hat of God himself. Harmony obliges by touching his head and giving him the impression of a Terrisman's earrings and a glow about him. Wayne drops into the Old Terris accent for the rest, and Pushes harder than any Allomancer ever has.MB2:TLM:Ch 71
- dies-detonating-the-bombWayne dies at the centre of the harmonium blast aboard the warship — the largest single blast, Harmony confirms for him, ever produced by a person on this world. Because he was Invested at the moment of death, he persists for a short time before passing into the Beyond. He spends that time conversing with Harmony over the curve of the planet, asks one question, shakes God's hand, and goes.MB2:TLM:Ch 74
- biggest-explosion-ever-by-a-personWayne declines to spend his one question on the safety of Wax and the others — he trusts Harmony on that — or on MeLaan's parting compliment about his prowess. Instead he asks the only thing he actually wants to know: did he just produce the largest single blast by a person on this world? Harmony declares for him, with mock solemnity, that — excluding the Ashmount detonations, which count as acts of God — yes, Wayne just exploded himself in the largest explosion in the planet's history. Wayne wants this conveyed in particular to Steris.MB2:TLM:Ch 74
Events
- MB2:AoL:Ch 2 Lets himself into the sitting room ahead of the Harms party; pretends to be Wax's Uncle Maksil; slips an aluminum bullet onto the tea tray inside a speed bubble
- MB2:AoL:Ch 4 In disguise as a Terris-accented waiter named on the staff roster, ferrying soup and bread to Wax's table and slipping him notes and a chair-swap reveal of the case so far
- MB2:AoL:Ch 5 Pulls his dueling canes from under the table when the Vanishers come in, holds back at Wax's order, and once the boss shoots Peterus drops a speed bubble and fights down seven bandits with the canes
- MB2:AoL:Ch 6 Fights the south side of the ballroom with dueling canes and speed bubbles, takes a belly wound playing dead to fool the gunman, and is hauled to his feet by Wax to finish off the last six bandits — also sits idly at the aftermath table cracking jokes and pickpocketing a confiscated aluminum revolver for Wax
- MB2:AoL:Ch 9 Returns from his constabulary errand with the Vanishers' foundry address, downs poisoned tea, throws up a speed bubble around the bomb, and shields Wax and Marasi from the blast with his own body
- MB2:AoL:Ch 10 Catnaps through the carriage ride, sneezes (filling his metalmind on the go), goes up to clear the upstairs traps, and tells Marasi for the first time why he no longer carries a gun
- MB2:AoL:Ch 11 Reclined on the bench opposite Wax, spinning a dueling cane and grousing about Miles, and chiming in to nudge Wax toward calling on Ranette once they get back to the city
- MB2:AoL:Ch 13 Apprentices break him and Marasi out of the locked compartment; he turns up at the station office to mock Wax's wound, advises taking Miles' metalminds as the only way to kill him, and shoots down Marasi's sympathy by reminding her his entire back was on fire that morning
- MB2:AoL:Ch 14 Edges his way closer and closer to Ranette through the workshop, hands a Sterrion pistol back to her as the trade for the train-office shipping manifests, and gets sent off to fetch the manifests and his pressure-detonator dynamite for the night's job.
- MB2:AoL:Ch 17 Spots through the glass, identifies the rotary gun, and counts the steps of the Machine's anchor-and-lift swap before the two of them ride for the city.
- MB2:AoL:Ch 18 Drops in from above the foundry hall with dueling canes and a borrowed duster, fights a holding pattern in and out of speed bubbles, takes a rifle bullet in the arm from Push, and turns to run down the Coinshot rather than help Wax.
- MB2:AoL:Ch 19 Drops a speed bubble over the three of them long enough to plan the Coinshot kill; arrives bandaged, drained of healing, slowing.
- MB2:AoL:Ch 19 Slips up beside Wax in the dark and admits he failed to stop Tarson taking Marasi.
- MB2:AoL:Ch 19 Returns in a borrowed constable's uniform, hat, and a false moustache at the head of more than a hundred constables and points Miles out for the squad.
- MB2:AoL:Ch 20 Tips his bloodied lucky hat at Wax, slips him a second Sterrion he traded for off the dead, then drifts off to charm the on-shift constables over their morning sandwiches.
- MB2:AoL:Epilogue Waits on the platform with feet up on a barrel, arm still in a sling, smoking a pipe and reading a pocketed novel — settles the day's standing bets with Wax and confesses that the city, not the Roughs, is the truly hard country to live in.
- MB2:BoM:Prologue Stands quietly inside the barricade in a round coachman's hat, having miscounted himself in as a ninth gangster, then drops two of Migs's crew with dueling canes the moment Wax kicks the door.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 1 Rides back from the Migs raid in Wax's carriage, congratulates Wax on being good *decoy* material, accepts the wedding pendants — then never arrives at the church.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 2 In chef's whites and a stolen Easterner accent in the wedding-breakfast kitchen, abusing the assistant cooks until Marasi arrives. Drinks cooking sherry, then wine, openly takes credit for the water tower, and finally concedes he should let Ranette go.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 3 Sprawls in Wax's easy chair eating walnuts and throwing them at the projected evanotypes, including one at VenDell's head to confirm that someone so melodramatic can really exist.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 6 Eavesdropping a New Seran couple's accents two tables over, slides into Marasi's booth on his way past to extract a whiskey on Wax's tab and a confession of her own.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 9 Found in a private compartment's floor-luggage box with a half-undressed MeLaan, having missed the entire raid; meekly takes Marasi's lecture, but is unrepentant about the snog.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 10 Yawns through the hotel tour, raids the bar cabinet for peanuts, and tries to barter his shoe for Aunt Gin's enormous flower-festooned hat on the grounds that it would suit him next time he needs to be an old lady.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 11 Approaches the New Seran bank in a borrowed top hat and rich-uncle persona; balances a tower of Eriola's desk items including the stapler while Marasi works.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 12 At the Seran New District Cemetery — restyles his top hat into vagrant shape, knife-edits Marasi's dress to pass for a kept woman, thickens his accent to a generation-older New Seran register, and engages Dechamp as *Mister Coins*.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 13 At graveside while Dechamp digs — eats a sandwich, takes a swig of the gravekeeper's flask, catches the moment the night-crickets go silent and throws Marasi into the open grave a beat before gunfire opens up.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 14 In the grave, takes four bullets and heals through them on gold; sets up the popgun-feint, the grave-to-grave move under bendalloy, and finishes the survivors with his dueling canes.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 15 Plays Death at Templeton's window in a black cloak with two half-spikes wired in front of his eyes and self-inflicted puncture wounds in his arms for *authenticity*; afterward, in the garden, heals on gold and counts this his fourth time impersonating Death.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 17 Pops his head down from the driver's seat to find out who used Allomancy on the moving coach.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 17 Fills his hat with walnuts, then has his metal belt yanked twenty feet down the hill by the armed cube; later confirms he can draw healing from the gold bracelet even though he never filled it.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 17 Catches Wax's shotgun with distaste, gets flung off the cliff toward the soldier-ringed warehouse, and starts tapping the gold bracelet before his head hits the ground.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 18 Trades Wax apple-juice from his leather canteen, jumps up the upper catwalk to knock out a curious engineer with two thumps, and pitches the bluff plan of putting on the man's coat and using his *smart-person talk* to walk into Telsin's guard chamber.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 19 Wears the stolen engineer's coat with a false nose, mustache, fattened cheeks, and a perpetual right-eye squint; uses *the lattice supports of the apricity are completely liminal* and *the caronals are completely nepheligenous* to lure Irich and the Coinshot brute out to *hold up* one of the ship's pontoons.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 20 Tries to reach Telsin but is shot in the shoulder, neck, side, and again as he tries to play dead; healing each time off the gold bracelet until Wax roars in and Pushes the soldiers off him.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 20 Hops up the rope ladder lithely despite a crossbow bolt in his thigh; takes a lightness medallion from the masked man and remarks *that's right strange* as his weight drops.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 21 Hanging halfway out one of the open doorways, gawking down at distant gunshots and the buried village below.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 21 Slumped snoring in a seat, then wakes long enough to lean out behind the others and brag that they were the ones who downed Allik's big ship — only to be told it fell to a storm.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 24 At the doorway with a dueling cane across his knees, watching not the distant lanterns but the nearer darkness — and the first to spot the parley flag in it.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 24 Pokes his head into the trap corridor at the end of the scene to tell Wax that Edwarn is, *like, on our doorstep and demandin' rent money close.*
- MB2:BoM:Ch 25 Saunters into the trap hallway with his back to the doorway, lazy-eyed, watching Telsin more than Edwarn.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 25 Cleared back with Wax at the door, wearing the healing bracelet, speed bubble at the ready in case the door's activation is itself a trap.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 25 Stays in the door area as Wax confronts Edwarn alone before they cross the threshold.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 26 Charges Suit, takes a fistful of Pushed coins through the body, heals out with his gold metalmind and escapes down the trap corridor.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 27 Rams Suit off Wax just before the killing shot, healed from the spike-pit fall above; kneels beside the pinned Wax and holds his hand as he dies.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 29 Walks out of the snow toward Marasi with the shotgun on his shoulder and three small spikes in his other hand.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 29 Crouches over the mistwraithed MeLaan, drops spikes into her flesh and grins as she comes back.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 30 Scurries up to the surrendered soldiers as they come off the ship to gather weapons.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 30 Falls in beside Wax with the shotgun on his shoulder while the captain argues.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 31 Hangs halfway out the cabin window watching Elendel's lights pass below, and in the corridor admits how he handled Telsin on the plateau.
- MB2:BoM:Ch 31 Comes down the gangway, ribs Marasi about the southern pilot, and stops her at the stairwell so Wax and Steris can descend alone.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 1 Follows Marasi through an Elendel sewer holding the lantern, complaining about the smell and the spiders, sharing his suspicion that MeLaan is going to break up with him.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 3 Climbs down a near-vertical shaft after Marasi, jokes about how women break the laws of physics, sights the Cycle in the cavern below, and takes down a guard with a single punch when the two of them are spotted on the way out.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 4 Holds the smuggling-cavern tunnel for Marasi, lays down cover fire with picked-up handguns, dueling-canes a handful of gangsters into the dirt, and stays behind to take on the remaining group while Marasi chases the Cycle. Drops a flash-bang into a crate of explosives on his way out.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 8 Found in the centre of the wrecked cavern playing a card game with fifteen tied-up gangsters, dealing their hands face-up in front of them and pretending he can't see; pivots into Marasi's *Instant Backup* plan and bubbles the prisoners under her slowness bubble while he runs for constable reinforcements.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 10 Hiding from his two bowler-hatted creditors in a serving-woman's apron, cap and a pair of fake breasts; bites into the second half of Marasi's sandwich, declines to explain whom he owes, and hustles her out to make the three o'clock meeting.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 18 Bursts in late; drinks tea from the teapot spout, possibly spiking it; agrees to take VenDell along on a prison interview to coach his accent.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 20 In the truck alongside Marasi's on the Bilming convoy, talking the ear off his driver Hoid.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 23 Throws his speed bubble over Marasi and VenDell behind a truck for the battle council, then peels off to fight the Slider Getruda in a blur of canes and bubble-on-bubble compression.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 26 Asleep on the floor of the interrogation room — hat over his eyes, rolled jacket as a pillow — through the entire planning session.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 27 Greets Lord Mayor Entrone by suggesting someone has sewn a sack of dicks together into a man; later, eyes alarmingly wide, edges close enough to spook the mayor out of his speech about the *talking piece of slime*.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 28 Stands sentry at the window of the interrogation room while Marsh briefs the others, then spends the rest of the chapter visibly destabilised by the discovery that ghosts are real.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 29 Tags along through the constabulary exit and into the records office, where he pretends to nap in the meeting-room corner with one eye cracked watching *Kim*.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 32 Volunteers to break the window so the others can disclaim him, then strolls off to buy a chouta wrap from a corner stand, claims to read every Jak serial, and helps Wax sell the "we adventured with Jak" cover that gets Maraga to open the door.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 33 Pretends to leaf through Maraga's funny-vegetable cartoon box while actually keeping eyes on *Kim* with a hand on his dueling cane; goes for the canes properly when Telsin starts down the stairs.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 34 Volunteers to shoot Telsin a few more times *just for himself*, throws the speed bubble that lets the team plan in private, asks a small philosophical refresher on who Trell and Autonomy and the woman on the steps are, and leaves Marasi with a fist-tap and a stapler tied with a ribbon hung in the place of a stolen bowler hat.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 35 Scouts the alley behind the Sentinel of Truth offices for snipers while Wax and Telsin talk; offstage by the time they go up onto the roof.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 41 Off-page distraction outside the Silver House; his crowd-baiting work — including a fire that fills the upstairs with smoke — buys Wax his window for the break-in.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 46 Meets Wax at a bar after the Flaming Bunny distraction sets the mayor's mansion alight; descends with him into the storm drains, spots graffiti shaped like a canyon, and is monologuing about *Ma's last story* when the Set assassins open fire from up the tunnel.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 52 Walks the drain beside Wax with sudden bags under his eyes and a sniffle from frantic last-minute health-storing, kicks in the door of the warehouse outside the lab and drops the gunmen inside, then is left to mop up the stragglers when Wax launches off after the escaping convoy of trucks.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 55 Sits exhausted at the lab with the guards he tied up, wiping his nose on someone else's monogrammed handkerchief, until Wax returns with two bottles of Logshine and the news that they are taking half an hour.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 61 Rides up the Shaw on Wax's back, runs Scary Tree in Wax's mistcoat to distract the balcony squad, then stays behind while Wax enters the stairwell as Harmony's Sword.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 62 Follows Wax up the broken stairwell at a safe distance — dust-covered, gaping at the carnage — then makes the call in the marble hall that the last layer of defenders are *building security* who never signed up for this, and prepares to talk them out the door.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 65 Walks the dazed-but-alive walk over to Wax after the fall, kicks Dumad's corpse, and crosses the ballroom with Wax toward the skylight.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 66 Rides the Steelpush up to the Shaw rooftop holding Wax's arm, then corrals the engineers away from the device while Wax confronts Telsin.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 69 Climbs over the aft rail after Wax and lands, pulling on a damp bowler.
- MB2:TLM:Ch 69 First-time Coinshot aboard the warship; drops a sailor with a Push-bullet barrage, fumbles his first stairwell Steelpush.
- MB2:SoS:Prologue A round-faced seventeen-year-old in an oversized bowler hat, left outside with the horses and promising not to "swipe nothin'" — Wax's kid sidekick in the Roughs.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 2 Bursts in past Darriance (whom he distrusts on principle for being a butler) with word that the Marksman has finally moved.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 2 Rides in the back of Marasi's motorcar, head hanging out the window, missing none of the spectacle.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 3 Reappears on the slum steps with the unconscious Marks at his feet; later shoves Marasi clear of the sniper's first volley and runs the rooftop assassin down an alley.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 4 Staggers out of the alley with a fresh hole in his shoulder, a crossbow bolt in his hand, and an immediate interest in one of the dead man's teeth as a lucky charm.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 4 Pockets a Citizen Magistrates cigar box on the way in (replacing it with a bruised apple), drinks from a dead man's silver flask in the ballroom, and confirms the saferoom kills were not done from inside a speed bubble.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 6 Sits on a narrow canal dock with his shoes off and his feet in the water, just come from the university, unwilling to be himself today.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 6 Kicks in Idashwy's door, takes the kitchen, and finds the body.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 6 Reads the apartment as a Terriswoman discovering port and bolder dresses, drinks her whiskey, and turns out the dead woman's pockets while Wax sits with the book.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 7 Throws his coat at Darriance, finds out Ranette left him only the instruction to be slapped, then rides up top with Hoid on the coach.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 7 Slouches in with someone else's constable hat on, drops into a chair, puts his feet up on the bracer table, and falls asleep.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 10 Surges out between two partygoers and tackles the fleeing server, only to learn from Wax over a pile of Innate's guards that the actual kandra was the other waiter; ordered to stay and guard the governor while Wax dives out the window.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 12 Sits across from the bruised governor's guards eating a sandwich; tells Steris he finds her *repulsive* and prefers the guards' company; gets called over by Marasi when she arrives with constable carriages and word of the priest murder.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 12 Sits in a pew chewing gum and staring up at the body until Wax arrives, then is sent out on some errand.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 13 Across the booth from Wax, six storeys up on a tower of beer-mat coasters — three of the lower levels glued together with the gum he is chewing — and contemplating how to get everyone in the city drunk.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 16 Hidden among the dead guards in the saferoom stairwell, throws up a speed bubble around Wax and Bleeder at the door, giving Wax the seconds he needs to unload every gun on his person at her.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 18 Lounges in a corner of the mansion hallway with his feet on an end-table, spinning a stolen gold-and-mahogany pen between his fingers, as Marasi passes through on her way to the entry hall to wait for a carriage.
- MB2:SoS:Ch 22 Tumbles out of the study closet trussed and gagged with a stab wound in the leg, his metalminds stripped — kept alive because Paalm meant to harvest his powers with spikes later. Hands Wax a small pouch from Ranette holding the one bullet that matters.
- MB2:SoS:Epilogue On crutches, leg still bandaged, hobbles over to Wax's footstool to outline his plan to *get everybody drunk* and to pass on his father's wisdom about stiff upper lips, then crosses the room to corner the Tarcsel daughter and offer her money on the spot.
