Second Generation
The second-oldest generation of the kandra and the practical rulers of the kandra homeland in the First Generation's absence from public matters. TenSoon is brought before them in closed session and held for them in the prison pits. MB1:HoA:Ch 2
Known facts
- gave-kelsier-a-contractIt was the Second Generation who, in their hunger for the wealth offered, assigned a kandra servant to Kelsier himself — the man who was planning, and would succeed in, killing the Father. TenSoon throws this at KanPaar during his judgment: the Seconds helped bring about the Father's death and therefore lack standing to call his own choices rash.MB1:HoA:Ch 11
- stage-a-coup-against-the-first-generationWhen Haddek finally tells the assembled kandra that the day of the Resolution may have come, KanPaar and the Seconds react: with Fifth Generation hammers behind them they seize the First Generation mid-counsel in the Trustwarren and take Sazed with them, KanPaar declaring the Firsts too unstable to lead a people who might at their word be ordered to die. They strike before the Firsts can finish telling the common kandra enough to make the Seconds redundant.MB1:HoA:Ch 75
Events
- MB1:HoA:Ch 2 Represented in the prison by their executioners — kandra with gold-lined acid in a bucket, on orders to kill TenSoon before he can speak — and by a whispered voice that pleads with him to take the offered death and not put the homeland in further danger.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 9 All twenty members of the Second Generation stand at lecterns arranged in tiers across the Trustwarren from TenSoon, their crystal True Bodies catching the blue lamplight, KanPaar speaking for them.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 11 Stand in their tiered row at the front of the Trustwarren through TenSoon's judgment; KanPaar speaks for them and another, unnamed, comments that humans and koloss kill their own because they are of Ruin while kandra do not because they are of Preservation.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 33 Watch from the front rows and the lectern while KanPaar reads sentence; scatter and crowd around their broken senior after TenSoon shatters him.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 68 Twelve aristocratic kandra gather at the lecterns under KanPaar's lead to interrogate Sazed; they dismiss him as a blasphemer, then file out badly rattled when the First Generation silences KanPaar and orders the chamber cleared.
- MB1:HoA:Ch 75 Stand at the lecterns through the morning, increasingly humiliated as the Firsts speak past them; back KanPaar's coup with rising apprehension.
