Yeddaw
A city in Tashikk cut down into a once-flat plain — a maze of interlocking trenches, two or three storeys deep, that house everything, with crops grown on the strips of original ground between them and only a single domed building peeking above the surface at the centre. About a century old, cut by Azir's Imperial Shardblades; ringed by guard towers instead of walls and laced with wide overflow channels to vent highstorm floodwater. SA:ED:Ch 2
Known facts
- open-flame-forbiddenOpen flame is forbidden inside the city, which makes infused spheres unusually precious — after the Weeping, when sphere stocks run dry, an officer like Hauka cannot read by night without scrounging up a charged sphere or two from someone whose cage was forgotten outside in an unscheduled storm.SA:ED:Ch 3
- homes-set-up-on-stepsEvery doorway in Yeddaw is set a few steps up off the trench floor — homes cut into the wall, painted in bright columns to differentiate one "building" from the next, with shanties between them all up on stilts. Lift reads it as protection from highstorm floodwater, the same logic that puts the Purelake up on its piers.SA:ED:Ch 4
- fire-blaze-led-to-flame-banA devastating fire early in the city's life ripped through one of the slot slums and killed a great many people; out of that disaster came the ban on open flame in the trenches and the system of central communal ovens cut into the rock above.SA:ED:Ch 6
- records-everything-in-grand-indiciumEverything written down in Yeddaw — and seemingly in Tashikk more broadly — eventually finds its way into the Grand Indicium, the moundlike archive-fortress at the city's highest point. The Tashikki do not throw paper out; they preserve it.SA:ED:Ch 11
Events
- SA:ED:Ch 3 The upper checkpoint and immigrant-quarter ledge, with the post building, sphere cages and the long drop into the trenches below, are the chapter's setting.
