A pre-imperial calamity now believed by Vin, Sazed and Tindwyl to have been the mists themselves — or some change within them — falling across the lands deeply enough to swallow sunlight and starve the kingdoms beneath them. The Lord Ruler is still credited in imperial doctrine with having saved the world from it, and with bringing the ash and the mists in the aftermath; King Wednegon of Darrelnai blamed his defeat by the Conqueror not on koloss but on the Deepness's effect on his food stores.
