Dockson
also known as Dox
Kelsier's longtime partner and logistics man. A composed, half-bearded organizer who runs the crew's day-to-day operations and has never been an Allomancer. MB1:TFE:Ch 4
Known facts
- plantation-originDockson was born plantation skaa under Lord Devinshae — a lord with a sterling reputation in Luthadel who was, by skaa measure, only an ordinary monster. Dockson left the plantation the morning after Devinshae had the girl he loved, Kareien, taken and killed. He has never been back.MB1:TFE:Ch 22
- commands-rebellion-after-kelsierWith Kelsier dead and the rising under way, Dockson takes the warehouse table and runs the Luthadel revolt himself — rationing the best gear to the steadiest fighters, sending detachments to seize food and water before the city can riot through them, and refusing to spend men on a single-target rescue at the palace.MB1:TFE:Ch 37
- dies-defending-keep-ventureDockson is killed in Keep Venture's grand hall when koloss crash through the stained glass and take the command post. He charges the largest creature sword in hand, sending a final curse Kelsier's way; the koloss catches his weapon in an indifferent hand and answers with its own.MB1:WoA:Ch 53
Events
- MB1:TFE:Ch 4 Arrives with Kelsier and backs the plan as it is presented.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 5 Briefs Kelsier on Venture's defenses and stays on the rooftop while Kelsier jumps.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 6 Wakes Vin, dresses as a minor nobleman, takes notes through the meeting.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 10 Takes the meeting minutes from beside the ledger table; will follow up with Theron's obligator informant.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 11 Reads the wound pattern and names the attacker as an Inquisitor.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 15 Bursts in furious at Kelsier for taking Vin to Kredik Shaw, then sits with him quietly through the surgery and afterward to hear his real fear — that the plan cannot succeed while the Lord Ruler still lives.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 16 Comes upstairs once Vin is awake and walks her through what happened in the palace — including that the Inquisitors sent two of their number after her and only one after Kelsier.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 17 Attends the meeting and argues Kelsier into letting Vin return to the balls: the Great Houses will grow suspicious if Lady Valette goes on missing parties.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 22 Receives Vin in Renoux's guest study, drapes already drawn against the evening, and tells her — calmly, without performance — the story of Kareien and the plantation lord who owned them both.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 24 Arrives mid-conversation, complains in passing about Vin's ash-streaked dress and Ham's mutilated uniform, and joins the cant game long enough to bring the room down with a perfectly straight-faced nonsense line of his own.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 25 Takes the shop in Kelsier's absence, with all three of Clubs's Tineyes on watch and the bolt-lair pre-routed in case it goes bad. He reads Kelsier's worry plainly enough to tell him, quietly, that whatever happens north of here the army is already useless to them.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 26 Fetches Vin an ale at her insistence, lays out the state of the plan to the room, and tries to defuse Breeze's open accusation against Kelsier when it comes.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 26 Stands beside Vin at the railing through the beheadings, marking each as a kind of vigil, and quietly hands Kelsier the opening to lay out the revised plan.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 27 Goes over what is left of the financial plan and is tasked, with Ham, with hiding the survivors of the army inside Luthadel.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 29 Lists the Soothing stations off the map and is given the job of finding ten thieving crews able to hit them all on the same night.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 31 Worries about the ruined dress before the wounds — Kelsier tells Vin it is how Dox worries.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 32 Reads Marsh's hidden note aloud at the kitchen table and takes Kelsier's orders to evacuate the shop within fifteen minutes.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 33 At the cellar's lone table, ledgers spread before him, reminding the crew the work was the reason they stayed on.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 33 At the cellar table when Kelsier returns; fills in the crystal mechanics for Vin.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 33 Comes in from the back room when the apprentice reports a crowd gathering in the fountain square.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 33 Pulls Vin off the street and into cover when Kelsier charges the carts; watches the Inquisitor step out to meet him.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 34 Calls up to Vin on the alley brickwork to ask what she can see, and answers cryptically that an axe in the back may or may not be fatal for a kandra.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 34 Clings to the brickwork beside Vin, naming the Lord Ruler as he steps down from the carriage and watching Kelsier fall.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 35 Names the trick out loud — the crew was never going to topple the Final Empire alone, an entire city could.
- MB1:TFE:Ch 35 Holds the lantern as the warehouse opens; calls the kandra forward and reads Kelsier's orders off the map — bureaucrat to the new nation.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 5 Sits across the ledgers from Elend reporting on the outlying villages of the kingdom; leaves before Vin tries the new alloy.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 13 Sits in the corner with a ledger and is the one who tells Elend most plainly that the crew has already worked out the alliance plan in his absence, and that Elend's country is his to decide for.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 20 Voices the steadiest objections to Elend walking into the enemy camp unguarded, then drafts the requested letter to Straff once Elend decides.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 21 Walks into the atrium after Allrianne has been led away, takes her vacated seat, and immediately suggests holding the daughter of the man besieging them as a bargaining chip — and afterward to return her as a negotiating gesture.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 23 Pulls up a stool and sits — as always — well away from Elend, counsels keeping the existing parley plan with Straff, and uses the koloss threat as a lever to make the meeting more urgent.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 26 Hand-delivers a letter from the Assembly complaining that Elend is missing their evening meeting to keep his parley appointment with Straff.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 27 Climbs into the same carriage as Elend — uncharacteristically — and once they are moving hands him the sealed letter from the Assembly he has been carrying all evening.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 28 Sits at the study table, presses Elend not to let the faction against him gain momentum and proposes drafting an aggrieved public letter to the Assembly in reply.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 31 One of the eight crewmembers Elend brings onto the Assembly floor as visible muscle — the Survivor's old lieutenants ranged behind him at the dais.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 33 Working ledgers at the desk in the palace library — preparing the royal finances to be handed off to whoever replaces Elend — and steered by Vin into talking about his old hatred of the nobility. Names the violence he and Kell did over the years as the weight he now carries, and lets Vin see why he cannot fully accept Elend.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 46 Opens with the suggestion that Elend is no longer leader of the crew and that they should consider serving Penrod instead; declares he will stay in the city when it falls.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 50 Running the war-room out of Keep Venture's ballroom; quietly placing a member of the crew at each city gate as backup to Penrod's nobleman commanders, and assigns Sazed to Steel Gate.
- MB1:WoA:Ch 51 Calls the crew into their assignments once the stairwells clear — gates sorted across the wall — and sends Sazed to Steel Gate as the plan had it.
